Addressing Europe's Unfinished Business

17 – 21 July 2017

Tackling polarization, building trust

Polarization is a characterizing feature of our age. Many are retreating into identity groups whether ethnic, religious, or class, and in many cases ceasing to talk to the 'other'. This trend deeply affects the capacity of Europeans to work together for the common good.

How do we reverse this tide? How do we build trust with those on other sides of the fault-lines?

This event will gather people from all parts of Europe - and beyond - who want to create concrete, hope-building European initiatives, drawing on moral and spiritual values common to the main philosophical and faith traditions and eventually offer an alternative to polarization.

 It will:

•         highlight initiatives addressing the root causes of polarization,

•         provide experiences of methodologies for dialogue in divided societies,

•         create a safe space for people from different backgrounds to listen to each other,

•         make room for reflective space to consider our own responses.

Initiatives of Change (IofC) believes that what we see in the world is partly a reflection of what is going on in our hearts. Honest self-examination to ask what is our part in causing polarization leads to see how the change can start with me, and to search for inspiration about how to engage with others in finding a way forward.
